La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly prepared to take their interest in Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic to a higher level as the Catalans step up the chase for the Chelsea player.
El Mundo Deportivo reveals that Barcelona hierarchy led by Robert Fernandez has been following Matic closely over the past few months.
The Serbian’s technical qualities and versatility were evaluated and although Barcelona see him as a complete player there seems to be a lack of interest for the summer move.
The various Serbian media outlets suggest otherwise, claiming that Barcelona have already made contact with the Premier League club, asking about the availability of the 28-year-old Serbian international, who is believed to be a quality alternative for Sergio Busquets.
Nemanja Matic is also said to be offered to Barcelona earlier in the season, but Antonio Conte has since then made him an integral part of his 3-5-2 formation, with the Serbian midfielder forming one of the strongest duos in the Premier League with N’Golo Kante.
Matic has made 27 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season, but is yet to score a goal for his team.
