Barcelona are keeping tabs on Real Betis defender Inigo Martinez, El Mundo Deportivo understands.
The Catalans’ technical department is working on reinforcements following a pretty disappointing season and defensive signings seem to be a priority.
With Adriano Correia heavily linked with a summer exit and Carles Puyol set to miss the start of the season through injury, Barcelona are eager to sign at least two new defenders.
The Spanish giants tried to bring Thiago Silva and Javi Martinez to Camp Nou, but the enquiries have been rejected by their respective clubs, forcing Barcelona to look elsewhere.
El Mundo Deportivo now claims the Catalans are showing interest in Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez.
The player, who will be 21 on Thursday, has largely impressed playing in the heart of defence this season, while he also managed to score three league goals this term, one of which was scored from his own half against bitter rivals Athletic Bilbao.
Martinez has three more years left on his contract at Anoeta and his release clause stands at €30 million, but it is believed the Basque side would not be able to resist a big money offer.
