El Mundo Deportivo has learned that Barcelona are weighing up a move for Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu.
The Catalans are looking at a number of high-profile players as they hope to add more quality to the heart of defence, and it appears they have also made a check on the France international.
Mathieu is not a central defender, but has done brilliantly when playing in the heart of defence for Valencia this term, and his rock-solid showings at the back did not go unnoticed.
Barcelona scouts have been impressed by the Frenchman, and his versatility would certainly be a valuable asset at Camp Nou.
The best thing here is that Mathieu will be available at a cut-back price in the summer considering that his contract at Mestalla expires in June 2014.
The 29-year-old, who can also play in midfield, is reportedly keen on agreeing a deal with the Catalans.
