Barcelona is serious about rebuilding the whole of their squad. After announcing that a deal for Manchester United defender Gerard Pique was almost done, the Blaugrana have now turned their attention to Inter Milan defender Cristian Chivu, according to reports in Italy.
The deal that Barcelona think would be enough to tempt the Italian outfit to sell their influential stopper would be one involving Samuel Eto’o in a part-exchange deal.
Cristian Chivu opted against moving to the Catalan club last year when he signed for Inter Milan from title rivals AS Roma. Now Chivu is viewed as a very valuable member of Mancini’s squad, but Barcelona hope to change that view when they present the Nerazzurri with the opportunity to sign Samuel Eto’o.
The Cameroonian striker had a wonderful first two seasons in La Liga before having his next two plagued by injury. Now Eto’o – valued at £24 million – looks set to be one of the many players leaving the club this summer and AC Milan were not slow in making their interest known as they look to mount a serious title challenge next year.
