Il Corriere dello Sport has suggested that Barcelona are showing interest in Roma defender Marquinhos.
The Catalans scouts attended a Coppa Italia match between Fiorentina and Roma in order to watch the talented centre-back in action.
As the interest in the 18-year-old continues to grow, the Giallorossi are aware they need to protect their prized asset.
The Olimpico outfit recently purchased the player outright from Corinthians for a fee of €3 million, and they now plan to offer him a new and improved contract.
Under the terms of his current deal, Marquinhos is earning around €800,000 per season, but Roma officials are eager to improve his contract in order to ward off interest from top European clubs.
The player is currently very happy at the club and has no intention of leaving Olimpico.
Marquinhos, 18, has quickly earned a starting berth following his loan move from Corinthians and has made 15 Serie A appearances this term.
