According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona sporting director Deco has met with the representatives of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah to discuss a potential transfer to the Catalan club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old doesn’t appear interested in signing a new deal with Leverkusen, and Bayern Munich were considered favourites to acquire his services for a long time. However, Barcelona believe they now have the edge over the German giants, having taken a concrete step to sign the 33-cap Germany international.
Tah joined Leverkusen from Hamburger SV in 2015 for a reported fee of just under €10 million. He was of vital importance to Xabi Alonso’s team that landed the club’s first-ever Bundesliga title last season, winning the DFB-Pokal as well without losing a single match in either competition. They came very close to winning the Europa League too, but they were finally stopped in the final by Atalanta.
