The Barcelona Derby was played on Saturday in La Liga at Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium, also known as Estadi Cornella-El Prat, and it ended in a 2-2 draw. David Lopez gave Espanyol the lead in the 23rd minute, Luis Suarez equalized in the 50th and Arturo Vidal turned the scoreline to Barcelona’s favor eight minutes later. The final score was set by Wu Lei two minutes before the 90 were up, but the job of the home team was made somewhat easier by the fact that the defending champions had to play the final 15 minutes with 10 men.
Having been booked nine minutes earlier, Frenkie de Jong was too casual with the ball in his own half and lost it to Jonathan Calleri, and then pulled the Espanyol forward by the shirt from behind to stop him. There was obviously no doubt in the mind of referee Carlos Del Cerro Grande as he raised first the yellow card, and then the red.
