According to Sky Sports, Barcelona are keen to add steel to their midfield by bringing Tottenham Hotspur’s Tanguy Ndombele into their ranks. And being unable to pay the full value of Spurs’ record signing, they have offered the services of centre-back Samuel Umtiti or right-back Nelson Semedo in exchange.
There were reports suggesting that Spurs would rather have a player like Arthur Melo, but head coach Jose Mourinho is believed to want another physical, defence-minded player. Further more, Barcelona have already made it clear they don’t want to part ways with Arthur when his name came up in their negotiations with Inter Milan over the transfer of striker Lautaro Martinez.
Ndombele had a disappointing maiden season in the Premier League, during which Mourinho criticized him publicly. It was believed that his future at the club depended on his reaction to the coach’s ‘tough love’ approach, but the interest from Barcelona could have a significant impact on his fate as well.
Meanwhile, Spurs are reportedly on the hunt for a right-back and a centre-back, but it remains to be seen whether Umtiti or Semedo will be of interest to Mourinho.
