According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have now opened talks with Lionel Messi and Marc-Andre ter Stegen over possible contract extensions for both men.

The duo will be out of a contract in summer 2021 and summer 2022 respectively, but in order to avoid getting to that point, Barca want to try and lock them down extensions at some point in the next few months.

The summer transfer window is going to be busy for them regardless of what happens, and while it may seem like a bit of a headache trying to get all of this sorted out, fans will believe it’s worth it in the long run.

As one of their core prospects in goal, ter Stegen could well continue to be the number one at the Nou Camp for many years to come. Messi, on the other hand, is largely considered to be the best player in world football and one of the best players of all time, and that kind of reputation doesn’t go away overnight.
