Sensational news is coming from Spain today with Don Balon shockingly claiming that Barcelona are prepared to activate the £72 million release clause of Real Madrid starlet Marco Asensio.

Having sold Brazil superstar Neymar to PSG in a world-record transfer this summer, the Catalan giants are preparing to launch a summer splurge as Ernesto Valverde looks to bolster his ranks with a couple of high-profile footballers.

Barcelona are unwilling to give up on their long-term target Philippe Coutinho, while they also chase Borussia Dortmund starlet Ousmane Dembele, but the latest reports claim that the Catalans are prepared to add another marquee name to their squad.

Marco Asensio has emerged as one of Real Madrid and Spain’s brightest talents for the future but with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Isco all ahead of him in the pecking order, Barcelona are hoping to prise him away from Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona appear to be willing to trigger the release clause for the 21-year-old, but Real Madrid are confident Asensio’s love for the club is more than enough for him to repel the interest from fierce rivals.
