ESPN are reporting this afternoon that Barcelona will not make a last minute move for Didier Drogba, despite rumoured interest this week.
Ladbrokes news suggested earlier in the day that Drogba – who recently joined Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua – could make a sensational switch to the Nou Camp.
However, not a club to deal in rumours, Barcelona have immediately denied these reports, saying that they ‘know nothing of this’.
It now seems likely that although Drogba was on holiday in Barcelona, he isn’t on the verge of a move there. Instead, he will join Shanghai as already reported this summer.
The former Chelsea man is now set to make plenty of money in his remaining playing days, working on the project of the new club in Shanghai and promoting his Didier Drogba Foundation.
In other Barcelona related transfer news, Talk Sport are reporting that they are set to join Manchester United in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels.
The defender has been excellent for Germany in Euro 2012 and with Barcelona in need of a central defender, he is now getting plenty of their attention.
Once Euro 2012 is over with, perhaps it is over to Barcelona and Manchester United to make their move.
We shall see.
