Torres started the opening four Premier League matches of the season for Pep Guardiola’s team and spent the following three on the bench, before suffering a broken foot. In all competitions, he’s made seven appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist. A versatile forward, the 21-year-old prefers to play on the right, but Guardiola has mostly used him as the central attacker this term.
Barcelona have been desperate to add attacking power to their ranks, and Torres has always been the preferred target for head coach Xavi Hernandez. The likes of Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Edinson Cavani of Manchester United have also been mentioned as options.
Torres is expected to arrive to Barcelona today (Thursday) to complete his medical and sign a five-year contract with the Catalan club, and then both clubs will release their official statements.
