Barcelona have reopened the talks with Ousmane Dembele and his representatives over a new contract, according to multiple sources.
Dembele’s current deal is close to expiring and Barcelona were keen on a parting of ways in January to avoid losing his services for free, after he rejected their previous offer due to being asked to take a pay cut when the club were willing to spend money on new players.
However, there weren’t any suitable offers during the winter transfer window and the winger ended up staying put, for what seemed likely to be his final few months at the Camp Nou.
But with his form improving greatly under Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona reportedly spoke to Moussa Sissoko and Marco Lichtsteiner, the agents who represent Dembele, about the possibility of restarting the talks, and the initiative has been met with approval.
Nothing is certain at this point, of course, but there is obviously still a chance for the 25-year-old France international to continue wearing the Barcelona shirt past this summer.
