In an interview with Sport, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has ruled out the club moving to bring Neymar back from Paris Saint-Germain or to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan this summer. Apparently, there will be no big-money signings, and goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen won’t be going anywhere.
Neymar left the Camp Nou for PSG in 2017, and Barcelona did what they could to re-sign the Brazilian star from the Ligue 1 champions last year but were unsuccessful. They won’t be trying again as Bartomeu admits that the Covid-19 pandemic has severely impacted their transfer business in the current window.
Talks with Inter over Lautaro were being conducted throughout spring, but they were recently put on hold until the financial consequences of the pandemic were assessed. That has now been done, with the result of the talks being brought to a definite halt.
As for Ter Stegen, Bartomeu described the German goalkeeper as ‘fundamental’ for the team, which all but confirms that he’ll still be at the club next season.
