During the Champions League opening round this week, Barcelona sent members of their signing committee around Europe in order to observe first-hand some of their reported targets, but also some that hadn’t been mentioned before.
A report by Sport claims, that apart from Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot and Ajax’s Frenkie De Jong, Suat Serdar from Schalke was also under the watchful eye of a member of the committee, namely Ramos Planes who had taken a flight to Gelsenkirchen.
At the age of 21, Serdar has only three professional seasons behind him, all with Mainz 05 where he made a total of 47 appearances and scored three goals from his position in central midfield. He only joined Schalke this summer on a four-year contract.
Serdar was born in Germany to Turkish parents, and he has represented Germany at the U16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 levels, but he hasn’t been capped in the senior team.
Sport also claim that Planes was paying attention to Nabil Bentaleb as well. The 23-year-old midfielder is on loan at Schalke from Tottenham Hotspur.
