La Liga champions Barcelona are stepping up their efforts to sign Italian midfielder Marco Verratti from Paris Saint-Germain, according to El Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalans have decided to spend heavily in the upcoming transfer window following a largely disappointing campaign and it is no secret that the Italy international is one of their top targets.
Barcelona chief Ariedo Braida could play a key role in the deal taking Verratti to Camp Nou, due to his close relationship with both the player and his agent.
The Catalans are well aware of the fact that Juventus and Bayern Munich are keen on the Italian playmaker, who appears to be considering his options.
Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi is trying to persuade Verratti to remain at Parc des Princes and he has even promised to seriously reinforce the squad in the summer.
Meanwhile, Barcelona and Juventus will square off on Wednesday in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie, with the Catalans 8/15 favourites to emerge victorious.
