Barcelona have doubled their efforts in scouting Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, according to AS. Apparently, their people have watched him play live several times both for his club and the Argentine national team.
The Catalan club have long been trying to identify and secure a suitable long-term replacement for 32-year-old Luis Suarez. They were interested in Luka Jovic before Real Madrid snatched the Serbian, and for the last several months they’ve been mention in connection with the likes of Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.
However, now it’s emerging that it’s actually the 22-year-old Inter Milan striker who’s at the top of their wish list, and it seems Barcelona are already doing the initial steps.
As for the likelihood of a deal going through, they will be encouraged by Inter’s summer acquisition of Romelu Lukaku, which means the Serie A side already have a player they can fall back on for the role, but the La Liga champions will be aware that Martinez won’t come cheap. His contract doesn’t expire before 2023, and Inter, who are trying to build a team to challenge for major honors again, won’t be too happy to let him leave.
