Barcelona are still interested in signing Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao in the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg. The well-known and well-respected reporter has claimed that although Barcelona are on the hunt for Dani Olmo, they have not given up entirely on bringing Williams to Camp Nou.
Plettenberg wrote on X: Understand that FC Barcelona still considering a transfer of Nico #Williams and remain engaged with the topic.
“However, the realization of this transfer is currently very unlikely, partly due to the transfer of Dani #Olmo.
“But: Williams to Barcelona is not 100 % off at this stage @SkySportDE.”
Williams has been on the books of Bilbao since 2013 and has established himself in the first team after coming through the Spanish club’s youth academy. The 22-year-old Spain international winger scored five goals and gave 11 assists in 29 starts and two substitute appearances in La Liga last season. Williams, who won UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain, also scored three goals in three starts and one substitute appearance in Copa del Rey last season.
