As shocking as it may sound, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Barcelona’s fifth choice striker – behind, Henry, Bojan, Eto’o and the reserve goalkeeper – is looking to leave the Catalan club. Among the interested parties is Portsmouth who apparently think that a club needs twenty strikers in order to succeed in the Premier League.
According to the Lancashire Evening Post, Gudjohnsen will be the subject of a £4 million bid from the men who finance Harry Redknapp. The Pompey manager is not looking to keep his targets a secret either. According to the same newspaper, Redknapp to the Mirror the following.
“Eidur is a good player, a proper player and it does look like he will be leaving Barcelona.
“He is someone I know, and is friends with my son Jamie.”
Making his interest public might not have been a very good idea given that West Ham and Newcastle are also interested in the former Chelsea and Bolton player. But given that Crouch has been priced out of a potential move to Portsmouth, Redknapp might feel that it is necessary to sign Gudjohnsen as he prepares for next season.
