Barcelona target £41m worth of Arsenal and Tottenham strikers

Pep Guardiola has made Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor his top summer target according to El Mundo Deportivo. The Arsenal striker has been in spectacular form this season scoring 24 goals. The Togolese striker would come at a spicy price for Barcelona who are reported to be asked for £23 million for his services.

But there is another obstacle that stands in the way of the transfer as Arsenal are thought to be unwilling to let go of their top striker. the Gunners have just finished another trophy-less campaign and now they look to rebuild their team for next season and challenge for top honours once again. Naturally, the talented Adebayor is one of their key players and they will do everything in their power to keep him.

Should the Adebayor deal fall through, Guardiola will look at Arsenal’s local rivals, Tottenham for an alternative. Dimitar Berbatov, the best player at White Hart Lane by quite a margin will be more affordable at £18 million and he could also be more likely to be able to move as the club has made it clear in the past that they are willing to let him go should the wight offer come in.

Berbatov is worth 18mil. This season has been worse than last season for berbatov he is not the player he was perhaps thats the reason for the low price tag but I think its right. Im a diehard barca fan and would pick Adebayor over Berbatov anyday. Jenas would do better than Berbatov.

Its none of us paying for the players so good luck figuring the price that will be paid. I think the shaun wright phillips price tag absolves sense from the issue. Berbatov in my opinion is worth more than Adebayor quite simply because he does more and plays at more than one position in front.

berba is only worth 15m if u get more than that 4 him them some1 is being fucked. u say he the best but he cant score 20 prem goals. even crouch is better than him he just needs more play time. henry and vanesterooi were the best in da prem 4 yrs and none ws sold 4 more than 16m. so berbs is a 15mil player and he only jst makes it

If Spurs can get a couple more quality players- I read they are trying to buy Capel from Sevilla, then it would be good to see them push on and take our rivalry to the next level.

I expect Arsenal right at the top next season. Let’s see Spurs knock Liverpool out of 4th spot. That would be interesting :p

I do sometimes laugh when i hear all these 30-40-50 millions pound transfer rumours, like robinho is worth 30M, berbatov is worth 30M, Ade is worth 25M, etc etc, all load of bollocks, youve all been playin champ man or whatever too much.

Ade has had one season of quality with the gunners and is worth around 15M but due to his contract lengh and relative happiness the price to actually buy the player would probably be more like 20-23M.

Apply the same logic for Berbatov as he is excellent player but aside from you yids hes not a 30 or even 20M player, i would put him on a similar price range to ade just down to his age, he is better i would accept that but as he is 3-4 years older you can expect less of a significant improvment (unless Fergie and the skum buy him like yorke and sheringham). I could see spurs selling for 18-20M. If you get 30 ill be suprised but not unhappy.

‘Huge’ players at the moment are Benzema, Ronaldo, Kaka, Torres and few others to be honest. Huge in the sense that it will be massive money to entice a move from either club or player.

Skill is only one small part of transfer cost, contract length, happiness, age, nationality, league experience fuking loads of crap. Learning about how football transfers work is really interesting and really opens your eyes to how shifty the big bussiness end of football is.

Yeah I don’t think Spurs should accept less than £25 mil. But I just think people shouldn’t expect more. Hope for more, but don’t expect it.

And ye Eddie is better than Ade, yet Ade’s worth way more. The valuations are so inaccurate at times. If we got offered £25 mil for Ade I would accept it if I’m honest. I don’t know who I’d sign with the money, if anyone up front, but I certainly feel although Ade is often good and sometimes brilliant, he’s really rough around the edges. He might iron that out, in which case great, but £25 mil is an awful lot to turn down for a player who might not ever be up to a similarly top standard as someone like Henry.

“have to be realistic about the valuation” I think 20mil + is realistic, given berbs has 2 years left on his contract and SPURS have the choice whether to extend it by a further 2 years (nothing to do with berbs himself) so its actually a 4 year contract, which in todays football is actually quite a long one!. I hope he goes, ill be honest, this whole thing is doing my head in (now i know how arse fans felt during the Henry saga)

Well we shouldn’t get carried away. If Madrid or Barca make an offer we might well accept, it’s far from certain that he’ll be with us next season.

I wonder what that means for the Nasri deal. I hope it still goes through, would be great to have both! Hleb’s the best dribbler in the league and Nasri looks similar in his balance and close control.

In all likelihood it seems if Nasri is joining then Hleb will be sold regardless, but let’s hope not.

And to be fair Arsenal aren’t obliged to win as much as United just because he claimed we pay similar wages.

If you didn’t notice Utd spent £50 million on a title winning team from the previous season AND got Tevez. After finishing 4th that year we sold one of our best ever players, made a profit and finished just 4 points behind them in a season where we lost Rosicky, van Persie and Eduardo for huge portions of the season.

I’ve rarely felt more smug! Just goes to show spending money isn’t what matters most. Sure I wish we’d won, but if we’d gotten lucky in a couple of games we dropped points in or United had had a serious injury to even just one of their key players like Ronaldo, Rooney, Vidic or Ferdinand I don’t see that they’d have finished above us.

  • Ryan

    0 0

I think a lot of fans weren’t optimistic about us this season, yeah, but frankly I was. We had a great squad whether people were too busy crying over Henry or not.

People in general often are too quick to jump to rash conclusions. The fact remained that we went into last season with a player who’d been holding back some of the players off our books, with a couple of good looking new players and on paper certainly a starting 11 to rival anyone, not to mention some potentially good subs. I couldn’t see any reason to be negative, people need to stop believing media hype and jumping on bandwagons and start to look at what’s in front of them. I always thought the only way we would not challenge for the title was if we had some serious injuries or bad luck. We had 3 serious injuries to 3 key players and still finished within 4 points, there’s no shame in that for any team. Especially when making a profit along the way.

What? When did I say Berbatov is worth 6 million? You’ve completely misread what I said.

I said you have to be relatively realistic with the valuation and don’t only compare with the highest priced players of similar calibre. I didn’t say Eduardo is worth more than Berbatov at all. Look again.

I said valuations are often very misleading and way off the mark. You can’t seriously think Berbatov is 3x as good as a younger Eduardo, but by most people’s valuations you’d have to pay 3+x more for Berbatov which is at least relatively unrealistic.

Don’t misquote me I’ve not said anything negative about Spurs and unusually as an Arsenal fan I don’t dislike them. I’ve only said don’t get your hopes too high based on numbers you see branded around by the media. As an Arsenal fan I know full well that many great players don’t get sold anything like what the media values them at. Viera was what £14 mil? Henry 16 mil? The same Henry that only one year previously was *reportedly* valued at £35+ mil. Yes Berbatov is great and he’s very valuable, but be prepared for Spurs to sell him for less because that’s often how it is.

Ryan as a Spurs fan let me honestly say you’re a prick!

Don’t try blowing smoke up our arses about Keane after suggesting Berbatov is valued around 6 million. Don’t even talk about players you can’t afford.

Danny Fiszman summed up his ambition for Ar5ena1 with this little gem:

“If you’d asked any Arsenal fan at the start of the season we’d finished 4th they’d have taken that.”

Then he makes a real arse out of himself with:

“If you look at our total wage costs you will see they are virtually the same as United” – So where’s your Prem & Champions League title then?

Can’t wait to see his prediction for next season!

lol look at the headline ‘Barcelona target £41m worth of Arsenal and Tottenham strikers’. Then they go on to say they EITHER want the £23 mil one or the £18 mil one. That’s not £41 mil, that’s EITHER £23 mil or £18 mil, sorry to have to clear that up for the retarded journos here.

Your valuation for Berbatov is likely wrong.

I think Spurs might be a bit over optimistic in expecting anything over £25 mil for him. He’s certainly a great player but let’s not get wrapped up in tabloid style valuations. If he wants to leave and Spurs want to sell he’s unlikely to fetch anything like the sort of £35 mil + figures that get branded around. Let’s also not forget that although some players are hugely over priced, a fair valuation of a player isn’t to just compare him to the most expensive players of similar standards. If you can buy Eduardo, who is a few years younger I believe, for £8 mil then I’m not sure you can justify why Berbatov needs to cost 2.5x as much. He’s certainly not 2.5x the player, no one can seriously think that.

As a Spurs fan i would agree he is a great player however to say he is our best player by a margin is abit extreme, Robbie Keane has a goal record over the last five years which is not been beaten by many and in Jonathan Woodgate we have one of the best centre halfs in Europe the same goes for Ledley King when fit. You also seem to have your sums wrong Berbatove will command much more than £18m probably closer to £28m anyway where did you get it into your head that Barca would want him and the gooner!
