Barcelona are preparing to activate the buyout clause in the contract binding Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid, and they are looking to make it happen within the next three days, according to Sport.
The tensions between Griezmann and Atletico have reportedly reached a boiling point, with the club refusing to negotiate a transfer and pointing to the clause, and the forward refusing to report for pre-season training in return. Since the start of the month, the said buyout clause has dropped to €120 million, and Barcelona are looking for the best way to go about activating it.
The Catalan club are keen to stop this unpleasant situation from going any further, and that is the main reason why they will try and get a deal over the line before Friday, when Griezmann would be obligated to return to Atletico if an agreement isn’t struck by then. Barca head coach Ernesto Valverde will call his players up for Sunday the 14th to start training, and the Frenchman hopes he will join them.
