Looking to move one step closer to defending their Copa del Rey crown, Barcelona will travel to fellow La Liga side Levante on Thursday night.

Starting with Paco López’s Levante side, while a bright run of form entering December may have had Granotas dreaming of a surprise European position, Thursday’s hosts have drastically struggled with their form entering 2019. Coming off the back of a 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Girona last week, Levante have now failed to win any of their last four outings, a run that stems back to the 6th of December. Along with shipping five against Barcelona last month, it will be their defensive issues giving Lopez the biggest headache. The Red and Blues now hold the second worst defensive record in La Liga.

As for the visitors, after booking their spot in the knockout stage of this year’s Champions League, many have Barcelona tipped to be the leading contender to secure another double winning season this year. Extending their advantage at the top of the table to five points over the weekend, Ernesto Valverde’s side have now won their last three matches on the bounce. With Barca expected to name a star-studded starting XI on Thursday, one man to watch for the visitors will be leading La Liga goalscorer, Lionel Messi. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has 16 goals in his 16 league appearances and also grabbed a hat-trick against Levante last month.
