Barcelona to exercise buy-back clause for Alvaro Botia

Barcelona are looking to bring defender Alvaro Botia back to the club, according to Onda Cero.

The highly rated centre-back was sold to Sporting Gijon in the summer of 2009, but not before the Catalans included the €2.5 million buy-back clause in his contract.

The player have since impressed at El Molinon, and he was a key member of Spain side that won Under-21 European Championship in the summer.

His impressive showings in La Liga even earned him a call up to the senior squad for games against Chile and Liechtenstein, although he has yet to make his debut.

Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola is now keen to bring the player back to Camp Nou, so as to improve his defensive options.

In the absence of genuine centre-backs, Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets were forced to act as stoppers in a number of games this season and Guardiola believes that Botia would be a perfect solution to the problematic position.
