Catalan super club Barcelona will make one final effort to prise Liverpool’s midfield maestro Philippe Coutinho away from Anfield in January, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Reds have held firm in the face of multiple offers from Barcelona, rejecting fees as high as £118m to keep the Brazilian at the club. Their position is unsurprising given how important Coutinho is to Jurgen Klopp’s side, as evidenced by his impressive tally of 13 goals and seven assists in the Premier League last season. In this campaign the midfielder has already added two goals and an assist in his four appearances and looks set for another big season at the Merseyside club.
Barcelona sold their own talented Brazilian Neymar to PSG for £200m and his replacement Ousmane Dembele has been ruled out for a few months with a thigh injury. With the Catalan club desperate to end rivals Real Madrid’s mini spell of dominance it is no surprise that their pursuit of Coutinho has been so fervent. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be able to hold onto their talismanic midfielder.
