As revealed by Sport, Barcelona tried to sign Ferran Torres from Manchester City this summer, but their efforts proved fruitless.
The relationship between the two clubs is very good, and apart from defender Eric Garcia and striker Sergio Aguero leaving City to join Barca as free agents, there were talks about other potential deals, involving the likes of Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte and Bernardo Silva on one hand, and Sergi Roberto and Antoine Griezmann on the other. None of those proposed transfers were realized, and the Catalan club later asked about Torres.
The Spanish attacker had a start-stop maiden season with the Premier League champions, but his form grew significantly towards the end of the campaign and he scored five goals in the last six matches. It certainly didn’t bode well for Barcelona’s hopes, and City quickly closed the door for the 21-year-old’s exit in the light of their own failure to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.
