Barcelona turn to Sevilla’s Fazio

Catalan daily Sport understands that Barcelona are seriously considering a summer bid for Sevilla stopper Federico Fazio.

The Catalans have failed in their attempt to attract a high-profile centre-back this January, meaning Tata Martino will have to rely on his current options that include Pique, Mascherano, Bartra and Puyol until the end of the season.

However, he plans to address the burning issue in the summer transfer window, with Barcelona reportedly hot on the trail of Federico Fazio.

The 26-year-old has developed into one of league’s top centre-backs over the last couple of years and Gerardo Martino believes he has what it takes to succeed at Camp Nou.

The Argentine’s aerial presence is also considered a huge asset given that the current Barcelona side largely struggles when defending set pieces.

And with Fazio’s release clause lowered from €40m to €10m, the talented footballer seems like a perfect candidate to reinforce the back line at Camp Nou.
