Barcelona wanted de Vrij

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona were interested in the possibility of signing Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij during the recent summer transfer window. The belief is that they would’ve gone ahead with a formal bid for the Dutchman if Samuel Umtiti left the Spanish champions, which had been heavily rumoured for months on end during the summer.

Stefan de Vrij has long since been viewed as one of the more exciting defenders in European football, but it would appear as if Barca just couldn’t bring themselves to pull the trigger.

They still had a fairly decent transfer window and were able to keep hold of some of their biggest names, but with the questions beginning to mount following an uneven start to the season, many are wondering whether or not they will come again in the January window and attempt to bring in a whole host of new faces.
