As reported by Marca, Barcelona will aim to sign a top quality striker this summer, and if that proves impossible, they will not sign anybody.
Luis Suarez will remain out of contention for several months, and the Catalans are currently without a focal point in attack. A year ago they signed Kevin-Prince Boateng on loan from Sassuolo as a backup for Suarez, but the former AC Milan forward was a huge disappointment.
Barcelona are adamant about not wanting to repeat such a mistake, and to that end they will apparently either sign a striker of top class, one who can at least come close to replicating the output of the brilliant Uruguayan, or hold off until such a player appears on the market. As for their youth setup, they simply don’t see one there.
At the moment, the options they would gladly consider are Rodrigo Moreno of Valencia, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal and Timo Werner of RB Leipzig. However, not one of them would be cheap.
If need be, they are ready to field Lionel Messi or Antoine Griezmann as a ‘false nine’.
