Catalan super club Barcelona did fairly well in the January transfer window, mainly due to the fact that they finally managed to secure the services of a certain Philipe Coutinho from Premier League giants Liverpool.
Interestingly however he wasn’t the only big name signing they were intending on making, but the Blaugrana will now wait until the summer to bring in Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to the Mirror.
The Austrian international is in his ninth season with Bayern, and is looking secure his seventh Bundesliga title at the end of this campaign. The German giants currently lead the league by 16 points over Bayer Leverkusen, and thus look set to continue their dominance.
Alaba has featured 14 times this season, scoring once, and at just 25-years of age he has established himself as once of football’s most talented fullbacks. His addition to an already stacked Barcelona squad would certainly make them an even more fearsome prospect, and the Austrian could make a long-term replacement for Jordi Alba.
