Barcelona are apparently worried about the injury suffered by PSV Eindhoven’s Donyell Malen. According to Sport, that is because they have been contemplating the young Dutch international as a potential candidate for long-term replacement for Luis Suarez, who will soon turn 33.
PSV suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Feyenoord on Sunday, in which Malen was substituted due to a knee injury in the 52nd minute. Manager Mark van Bommel was subsequently sacked, but before he was informed of the club’s decision, he spoke to the press and revealed that he was ‘more than worried’ by it. He couldn’t say any more as he expected tests to be done today (Monday).
Apart from the 20-year-old PSV forward, Barcelona were looking at Luka Jovic before the Serbian moved from Eintrach Frankfurt to Real Madrid, and there have been other names mentioned besides. As for Malen, he is reportedly on the radar of several Premier League clubs, and his contract runs until 2024, which probably means he wouldn’t come cheap. But it remains to be seen if the Catalan club will maintain an interest in his services in light of this injury.
