Nicolo Barella of Cagliari is having a medical ahead of proposed move to Inter Milan, according to Sky’s Italian branch.
Inter’s interest in the 22-year-old midfielder has been reported a number of times in recent months, and it seems it’s finally about to yield results. Formerly of Juventus, Italy and Chelsea, Inter head coach Antonio Konte is keen on working with Barella, and the Nerazzurri have agreed to pay an initial fee of £40 million, with add-ons to come on top of it.
Primarily an attacking midfielder who likes to break opposition lines with well-timed runs in behind, Barella is also capable of a good performance in a deeper role if needed. His quality has attracted the interest of AS Roma and Arsenal, with the Gunners even sending scouts to observe his game back in March. He played 35 Serie A games last season and scored a solitary goal, and he has two strikes in seven international caps for Italy under his belt.
