Basel 11/8 to beat Benfica in Tuesday’s Champions League battle

Competition: Premier League

Market: Basel to beat Benfica

Odds: 11/8 @ Bet365

The Champions League returns for the final game of the group stages as every side is looking to pick up three points to try to prolong their European campaigns. One group in which things have remained incredibly tight is Group A, where Basel travel to face Benfica on Tuesday.

Benfica have been awful this campaign. After five games they are yet to win, losing every single one of their Champions League games so far. While it is embarrassing to get beaten time and time again, often the way in which a side loses is more demoralising, and Benfica have struggled massively on the pitch, scoring just once and conceding 12 times. Benfica’s Champions League season has not been good enough, and they are likely to be quite pleased that they will not have to take part in any more European games for another season.

Basel, on the other hand, have been superb this campaign. After five games they have won three times and lost twice, collecting nine points along the way. This means they are just three points behind Manchester United, and ahead of CSKA Moscow on goal difference. This means that barring an incredible win for CSKA over United, then a win will be enough for Basel to go through. They will be pleased with their goal-scoring output this term, hitting nine goals, but they need to remedy their backline, having conceded five goals already. With this in mind, we are backing Basel with odds of 11/8 from Bet365.
