Desperate to reclaim their Super League crown this season, Basel will make the trip to the Stade de Tourbillon on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Sion may have managed to pick up a 0-0 draw against Everton in their final pre-season appearance, the Swiss outfit did struggle to make much of an impact heading into their Super League opener on Friday night. Drawing each of their five pre-season encounters, there is no doubt that Head Coach and former Switzerland international Stéphane Henchoz will be most concerned by his sides’ struggles in the final third. Managing to find the net just once in almost 500 minutes of pre-season action, Friday’s contest could prove to be another extremely tough struggle for Henchoz’s men.

As for the visitors, although a staggering 20-point buffer may have separated Basel and runaway league leaders Young Boys last season, the former Swiss champions once again secured Champions League football and the mood in their camp will be on a high. Winning five of their six pre-season outings, including a 4-0 victory over German outfit Nürnberg a fortnight ago, Marcel Koller’s side have won 10 of their last 12 matches across all competitions. Friday’s guests will also be boosted by their stellar record against Sion. Including picking up a 3-0 win when the two sides met back in April, Basel have won each of their previous four matches against Henchoz’s men.
