French Ligue 1 strugglers SC Bastia have sacked Claude Makelele after less than six months in charge of the club.
Makelele, who replaced Frédéric Hantz in the summer, had spent two-and-a-half years as an assistant coach at Paris Saint-Germain before being handed the reigns at the Stade Armand Cesari.
However, after just 12 league fixtures, Bastia (2-4-6)–currently second-bottom in Ligue 1–have relieved him of his duties.
A defeat to then-bottom Guingamp on Saturday arguably sealed the 41-year-old’s fate, and understandably so.
An official statement on the club’s official website read: “Bastia board advise all supporters and partners that Mr Claude Makelele is no longer the coach of Sporting Club de Bastia.”
Until Bastia recruit a new boss, Ghislain Printant and Herve Sekli will take over at the Stade Armand Cesari.
In other news, former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes has been shockingly linked with the Real Sociedad job following the sacking of Jagoba Arrasate.
“Real Sociedad have decided to relieve Jagoba Arrasate of his role as first-team trainer,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
“The club would like to thank the professionalism, the effort and dedication shown as much by Jagoba Arrasate as his assistants Txema Lumbreras and Bittor Alkiza in their roles with the first team.”
Do not read much into Moyes being linked with the opening. It is pure speculation.
Blackpool sign Jacob Murphy on loan from Norwich
Sky Bet Championship side Blackpool have completed the loan signing of highly-rated winger Jacob Murphy until February.
Murphy, 19, will give the Seasiders some much-needed quality and pace as they look to stave off the drop this season.
“It’s a really good move for Jacob,” Norwich boss Neil Adams told his club’s official website.
“With it being a Championship club I think it’s perfect for him.
“Lee Clark has just gone in there and he wants to bring players in to freshen it up, and it’s a great opportunity for Jacob to go and establish himself, or certainly to go and get game time.
“We’ve sat down and identified certain players that could benefit from loan moves, and once you make players’ names available then we’re confident, with the quality of the younger players we’ve got, that there will be plenty of opportunities.”
Blackpool look destined for ‘the drop,’ having won just six points from their first 15 league matches this term.
The Tangerines are seven points from safety and have the worst goal difference in the league. On the plus side, the addition of Murphy will certainly help bolster an attack that has scored just eight goals in 15 league games in 2014/15.
However, in all honesty, it is just a matter of time before the Seasiders are relegated to England’s third-tier.
