Marseille coach Elie Baup has urged his team to become more ruthless after their 2-0 loss to Borussia Moenchengladbach on Thursday.
A Filip Daems penalty and Peniel Mlapa goal saw the Bundesliga side to the convincing win in the Europa League clash.
Marseille topped Group C heading into the encounter at Stadion im Borussia-Park, but slipped behind Turkish giants Fenerbahce after the loss.
Baup, whose team are second in Ligue 1, said his side needed to improve if they were to progress from their group.
“We always want to keep the ball, have possession and use the whole of the pitch. That’s the collective aspect of our philosophy,” he said.
“In our team there is still this work to turn that into actions. And after all of that, we also have to think about the retaining possession and showing our commitment in a real European game like today.
“It was a real quality game. We have to show more commitment, keep possession better and be more ruthless.”
Marseille defender Rod Fanni said his side were disappointed with their performance and believes they were unimpressive in attack.
“It’s pretty difficult because we did feel like we were under pressure before the second goal. It’s difficult because I think we showed we were committed,” he said.
“On the one hand, we have not been rewarded for our efforts. But on the other hand, we were not dangerous enough to get a better result.
“It was a mixed performance. When we lose, we are never happy – even when it’s a friendly. That’s why we are disappointed.”
