Bayer Leverkusen chief Simon Rolfes says his “sure” head coach Xabi Alonso will remain at the club past the summer, despite reported interest from the likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Jurgen Klopp has announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season, and there is increasing speculation about Thomas Tuchel facing the sack at Bayern as the Bavarians’ season continues to unravel in an unwanted direction. Alonso has a history with both these clubs as a player, along with Real Madrid, and it is believed he would find it hard to turn down offers from either.
But asked by German outlet Sport1 if Alonso would stay at the BayArena, Rolfes said he was sure it would be so.
The Spaniard has overseen an impressive rise of quality in Leverkusen’s performances this season, propelling them to the top of the Bundesliga table without a single defeat, sitting currently eight points above defending champions Bayern.
