Bayern´s Klose warms up for Norway with double strike

Germany striker Miroslav Klose warmed up for Wednesday’s friendly against Norway with two late goals which put Bayern Munich second in the Bundesliga with a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

After Dortmund striker Nelson Valdez had given Dortmund an early lead at Munich’s Allianz Arena, Ze Roberto equalised for Bayern before Klose, the top scorer at the 2006 World Cup, popped up with his match-winning contribution.

The three points lifted Bayern from fourth to second in the league, leaving them just a point behind leaders Hoffenheim.

“It was good to get the two goals, but it was more important for us to get the win after the defeat by Hamburg last time out,” said Klose referring to Bayern’s 1-0 defeat 10 days previously.

“I was unlucky with a few of the chances I had here, but I kept my belief and I was rewarded for my patience.”

Bayern were behind after only two minutes when Valdez pounced on a mistake in the Bayern defence when a slip by defender Martin Demichelis allowed the Paraguayan to unleash his shot from 18 metres past Michael Rensing.

But Bayern were behind for only 22 minutes as Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller made a hash of dealing with a Franck Ribery cross and Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto stabbed the ball home.

It finished 1-1 at half-time and Dortmund’s Florian Kringe went close with a header midway through the second period.

And with less than three minutes left of normal time, Klose volleyed home from close range and when French midfielder Ribery went on a trademark run in injury time, Klose was on hand to accept the pass and fire home again.

The defeat leaves Dortmund ninth in the league, while Energie Cottbus are up to 15th in the table after their 3-1 win over Hanover.

On Saturday, only a late header from Hoffenheim’s Brazilian striker Wellington sealed a 1-1 draw at bottom club Borussia Moenchengladbach to keep his side top of the Bundesliga while Hamburg were shocked by Karlsruhe.

Hoffenheim were looking down the barrel of defeat thanks to a first-half goal from Bayern Munich-bound Alexander Baumjohann in ‘Gladbach, but Wellington’s 89th minute goal saved his side’s blushes.

And there was disappointment for Hamburg as Martin Jol’s side allowed a 2-0 lead to slip to a dramatic 3-2 defeat at Karlsruhe which drops them to fourth.

Hamburg were coasting at 2-0 after 48 minutes, but two goals from Karlsruhe in four minutes early in the second-half levelled the scores until striker Sebastian Freis headed his second goal in injury time to give his side three points to go 16th in the table.

Both sides had been reduced to ten-men when first Hamburg’s Mladen Petric was shown a straight red for a dangerous tackle on 76 minutes before Karlsruhe’s Marco Engelhardt was shown his second yellow on 82 minutes.

Stuttgart are up to sixth after an impressive 4-2 win at Bayer Leverkusen with Germany striker Mario Gomez warming up for Wednesday’s friendly with Norway with goals either side of half-time.

Leverkusen, who are fifth, were reduced to ten men when Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal hauled down Gomez on 48 minutes with just the goalkeeper to beat and was shown a straight red.

Cologne and Eintracht Frankfurt are both still in mid-table after their 2-2 draw, while Werder Bremen’s problems continued with a 1-0 defeat at Schalke 04 which left them 10th in the league.

Wolfsburg move up to seventh after their 2-0 win at home to VfL Bochum.

On Friday, Poland striker Artur Wichniarek levelled for Arminia Bielefeld as third-placed Hertha Berlin’s hopes of taking over at the top of the German league were thwarted by a 1-1 draw.
