(GSM) – Bayern boss van Gaal was pleased with his side’s performance after Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller‘s goal secured 2-1 victory over Schalke in the German Bundesliga.
Confidence in the Bayern camp will be sky-high heading into Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg at Old Trafford, but United will take heart in the knowledge that Louis van Gaal’s team had to scrap for 50 minutes on Saturday with 10 men.
All the scoring had already happened, Bayern striking twice in two minutes through Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller before Kevin Kuranyi pulled one back for the home team.
“It was an outstanding performance,” Bayern boss van Gaal said.
Bayern boss continued, “We didn’t concede many chances and scored two beautiful goals. I’m very satisfied.”
“Naturally it’s very positive we have won here. United have lost at home, we won away from home. But we need to have a rest, have a bit of treatment, and then see who will be available for Wednesday,” he added.
The Germans’ injury news is something United fans are keeping a close eye on, particularly the fitness of former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben. He wasn’t included in Bayern’s squad at the weekend but is expected to travel to Manchester.
