Bayern Munich have confirmed that the head injury sustained by Mats Hummels in Tuesday’s Champions League battering of Rostov is not serious.
The Germany defender suffered a slight bruise to his skull early in the second half of the 5-0 victory at the Allianz Arena after being caught by the boot of Miha Mevlja.
Hummels was consequently substituted by Carlo Ancelotti and was sent for scans on the injury, with the head coach saying: “He was not feeling well, I was taking no chances.”
However, Bayern released a statement on their official website stating that there is no serious damage and it remains to be seen if the centre-back will be fit for Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against Ingolstadt.
Hummels has made five appearances in all competitions since rejoining Bayern from rivals Borussia Dortmund in the close-season.
