Dutch midfielder and Bayern Munich captain Mark van Bommel has signed a year’s extension to his contract, the defending Bundesliga champions announced on Thursday.
“We have reached an agreement with Mark to prolong his contract for a year,” Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness said on Bayern’s website.
Having arrived in Munich in 2006 from Barcelona, van Bommel, 31, succeeded Oliver Kahn as club captain at the start of the season.
And Argentina defender Martin Demichelis, who has been at the club since 2003, has also extended his contract and will remain in Munich until June 2012.
“I am pleased about the extension and would like to have much more success with Bayern,” said the 18-times capped defender.
