Bayern expect Liverpool approach for Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool’s interest in Thiago Alcantara of Bayern Munich has been reported far and wide over the last few months, but despite some German outlets claiming otherwise, Bayern are still saying that there has been no official contact from the Premier League champions.

However, Simon Hughes of The Athletic says the new Champions League holders expect their predecessors to make the approach at some point.

There is much to consider from Liverpool’s point of view. The interest is real, says Hughes, but the club will be wary of a number of their key players entering their declining years at the same time. Thiago is 29. Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson is 30, Virgil van Dijk will be 30 next summer, Roberto Firmino turns 29 this October, Sadio Mane in April next year, and Mohamed Salah in June. Further more, the move for Thiago still seems to depend much on whether Georginio Wijnaldum, also 29, signs a new contract or ends up leaving this summer with his current deal in its final year, just as that of Thiago at Bayern.

Bayern reportedly want €30m for the midfielder which Liverpool are reluctant to pay at the moment, given that they could hypothetically sign him for free next summer.
