Bayern Munich appear very confident about securing the services of Manchester City’s Leroy Sane soon.
The Bundesliga champions have long been linked with the winger. A deal was reportedly very close last summer, before Sane injured his knee in City’s Community Shield triumph against Liverpool last August, which has kept him out of first-team action for the entire 2019/20 season so far. His contract is about to enter its final 12 months, and there have been no hints of a possible extension.
A recent report suggested that the Premier League champions would be willing to sanction a sale, but only for the right price, meaning that they wouldn’t allow Sane to leave for any kind of a reduced fee.
Nonetheless, Bayern’s vice-chairman Uli Hoeness recently spoke to radio Bayern 1 (as relayed by Sky Sports) and mentioned Sane as one of the players they’re counting on to be the pillars of the next-generation team.
“When I think that we managed to extend with Manuel Neuer, and we have Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Sule, Robert Lewandowski and hopefully David Alaba and Thiago Alcantara [also agreeing contracts], and I also hope with Leroy Sane, with [Kingsley] Coman, [Serge] Gnabry, a young, developable team,” he said.
“I can imagine, if everything goes well, that a new era is just beginning at Bayern Munich.”
