Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has welcomed the Dutch Football Association’s (KNVB) decision to send injured Arjen Robben back to his club.

The winger was initially included in the Netherlands squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Moldova on Friday and versus Sweden four days later, but has now returned to Bayern to receive treatment for a pelvic injury.

“Arjen seems to have a reaction to his pelvic injury. We’ll have to wait and see what the doctor says. I think the Dutch association has been very sensitive in this case, and decided to send him back to us to avoid any further problems,” Rummenigge told the club’s official website.

Rummenigge also underlined Robben’s importance to the Bundesliga table-toppers.

“Take his brief comeback against Leverkusen: he was greeted by the crowd with a standing ovation. That doesn’t happen to many players at Bayern, so our supporters understand what it means to have Robben at this football club.”

“He’s a superb player; a player who can win matches on his own.”

“The task now is to get him back to full fitness. That’s what we’re working on, and I know we’ll see a huge return from Arjen Robben in the future.”

Meanwhile, the Netherlands international could face a further spell on the sidelines as the Munchener Merkur newspaper reports that he has suffered a groin injury and will be unavailable for up to four weeks.

Bayern have yet to comment on any surgery for Robben, but they are expected to release an official statement shortly.
