Bayern Munich are hoping to reach an agreement with Serge Gnabry over a new contract that would see the former Arsenal youngster remain at the Allianz Arena for years to come, sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has revealed.
“We really want to keep him,” Salihamidzic told Sky Germany. “I hope he chooses Bayern.”
The 26-year-old, who has so far scored 64 goals and produced 40 assists in 171 appearances for the Bavarians, is entering the final year of his contract, and the Bundesliga champions are obviously keen to avoid the prospect of losing his services next summer without compensation. Salihamidzic hinted as much himself, saying that if a player doesn’t want to remain at the club, a solution to suit all parties could be found.
Bayern recently signed Sadio Mane from Liverpool and if they manage to hold onto Robert Lewandowski amid strong interest from Barcelona as well, Gnabry might find himself with less playing time than he would like at Bayern.
