According to Marca, Bayern Munich have contacted the representatives of Zinedine Zidane to sound out a possibility of the former Real Madrid star, and later extremely successful coach, succeeding Thomas Tuchel in the dugout at the Allianz Arena.
The end of Bayern’s domination in the Bundesliga – courtesy of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen – has cost Tuchel his job, though he will lead the Bavarians until the end of the season. Bayern’s primary target to take over was none other than Alonso himself, but following the Spaniard’s decision not to leave the BayArena this summer, they’ve been forced to look elsewhere.
Zidane was in charge at Real over two separate spells, and his greatest achievement as a coach is undoubtedly the three consecutive Champions League triumphs from 2016 to 2018. He left Los Blancos for the second time in 2021 and hasn’t worked since.
It’s believed that the 51-year-old has turned several offers down in the last three years, but he recently revealed a desire to return to work soon.
