Hoping to extend their buffer at the top of the Bundesliga this weekend, Bayern Munich will host Augsburg at the Allianz on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, booking their spot in the semi-final of this year’s DFP Pokal thanks to a 1-0 win away at Champions League hopefuls Schalke in midweek, Bayern Munich have continued on what has been an eye-catching run of form. Picking up a 3-0 romp away at Premier League outfit Chelsea while on Champions League duties last week, the German giants are enjoying a five-match winning run and are yet to taste defeat since the 7th of December. Along with the likes of Serge Gnabry continuing to shine in the final third, Head Coach Hans-Dieter Flick has seen his side record three clean sheets on the bounce and they have now gone over 300 minutes without picking the ball out of their own net. Holding a three-point buffer at the top of the table, Bayern should be confident of extending on their purple patch this weekend.

As for the visitors, shipping another trio of goals at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend, Augsburg have continued on what has been a woeful run of form since return from the festive break. Losing five of their last seven Bundesliga outings and continuing to freefall down the table, Martin Schmidt’s men find the mood in their camp at a season-low. With a growing reputation for their issues on the road and losing each of their last three appearances away from the WWK Arena, including an embarrassing 5-0 hammering away at Eintracht Frankfurt last month, Augsburg have failed to record an away goal since opening the New Year. Given the huge gulf in class between the two sides and Bayern continuing to show their resolve at the back, we’re backing a comfortable home victory on Sunday afternoon.
