Bayern Munich have accomplished something that, at one point earlier this season, looked rather difficult – to win the Bundesliga title. However, Die Roten were absolutely dominant and didn’t find opposition during the second half of the campaign. Not even a two-month hiatus slowed them down on route to their eighth straight Bundesliga title.

This is not something to take lightly. Think for a minute what it means for a team to win the league championship for eight consecutive seasons. Plus, now Bayern have more league titles (29) than all the other German teams combined in Bundesliga history (28). If that’s not sustained dominance, I don’t know what it might be.

Every single stat supported Bayern’s title run

Every single stat seems to support Bayern’s road to the title. Even though there still are two games left in the schedule, Bayern currently own the best attack in the league with 93 goals scored. They also rank at the top defensively, as no other side conceded fewer goals (31). They own the best record at home – although Dortmund might change that – and have been the stronger team on the road as well.

Bayern wished they could have dominated more in the final game of the season, but that wasn’t that case. In a gritty contest against a relegation-threatened side such as Werder Bremen, Bayern could only score one goal to win their trophy. Who else but Robert Lewandowski scored that pivotal strike? The Polishman broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a composed finish following a great pass Jerome Boateng.

That would be everything Bayern needed to win the title. It also boosted Lewandowski’s cause to become the league’s top scorer. With two matches left in the schedule, the Polish star has 31 goals and sits six ahead the second-best goalscorer, Timo Werner. Barring an unexpected miracle, Lewandowski will be the top scorer of the league once again.

Another season, another year where Bayern Munich end the campaign at the top. It’s been that way for eight years in a row now. And frankly, it doesn’t seem as if it’s going to stop any time soon.
