According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, Bayern Munich remain interested in signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.
The attacking midfielder shone for Leverkusen last season, when Xabi Alonso’s team went through the entire domestic campaign without losing a match and won both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal. His quality has attracted interest from clubs around Europe, and reports had him linked with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as Bayern.
Wirtz is currently under contract with Leverkusen until the summer of 2027, and the reigning German champions are in discussions with his representatives over a new deal. Bayern are aware of this, but as long as there is no agreement in place and no new contract is signed, they remain hopeful of acquiring his services next summer.
🚨🔴 FC Bayern are aware that Bayer 04 Leverkusen are in very good talks with Florian #Wirtz regarding a new contract.
However, as long as Wirtz has not yet signed and a transfer next summer remains a possibility from Bayern’s perspective, they want to stay in the race for Wirtz… pic.twitter.com/4URaF5ohBo
