Bayern Munich are stepping up their interest in Chelsea’s Mason Mount, according to The Guardian.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has made it quite clear to Chelsea that he wants to leave Stamford Bridge and that he won’t be signing a new contract. His current one expires at the end of next season and the Blues wouldn’t be entitled to any compensation if he leaves as a free agent. Therefore, they’re open to letting him leave now, but only for the right price.
Mount has reportedly chosen Manchester United as his preferred destination, but the 20-time English champions haven’t been able to find common ground with Chelsea over a price. They’ve reportedly had three offers rejected, the last one of £55 million, and have threatened to make no more. But Chelsea want £65m and won’t budge.
Mount’s transfer to United is therefore hanging by a thread, and Bayern appear determined to take advantage of the situation to try and land the England international themselves. Chelsea’s greatest success in the last couple of years came under the command of current Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel, including the 2021 Champions League trophy, and the German tactician obviously knows Mount very well.
