Although Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insisted the club had made no contact with RCD Espanyol regarding Marc Roca and have made no offers for the midfielder, German sources suggest that talks had taken place but that the deal is currently on hold, reports Sport.
After Renato Sanches left Bayern and joined Lille on a four-year contract in August 2019, many expected that Roca would be brought in as a replacement. The glitch in the two clubs’ negotiation was reportedly the player’s fee of €40 million, with Bayern insisting it was too much and Espanyol not willing to budge.
The 22-year-old joined Espanyol’s youth setup in 2014 and made his first-team debut in August 2016. His contract with the club was first renewed until 2017 and later until 2022.
Marc Roca started the team’s 0-2 defeat against Seville on 16 August, but it remains to be seen whether coach David Gallego will include him in today’s line-up against Deportivo Alaves.
